Rock Climbing in the Peak District

Even absolute novices will rapidly be ascending sheltered Peak District crags on this weekend program. Learners will learn tying in, safety techniques and several methods of ascent, along with abseiling down. Capped at six learners to one instructor, there is significant one-on-one guidance and personalised targets. The training is appropriate for all individuals aged 13 and over, ranging from absolute beginners to those with limited gym climbing background. This is a non-accommodation course, but there is a list of recommended, reasonably-priced places to stay nearby, including campsites, hostels, bed and breakfasts and pubs with rooms. The training centre is 10 minutes’ walk from Bamford railway station, located on the Hope Valley line from Manchester to Sheffield.

Non-Representational Art in Andalucía

Moclín, a historic town in southern Spain, about a short drive from Granada, is the breathtaking location for this art retreat. Painters of every skill level – including novices – will discover how to plan and create modern art. A portion of the time will be spent in the open air, working on guided exercises in the open. These initial charcoal drawings and watercolour studies will then be worked on in the workspace, with participants completing multiple interpretive scenes in acrylics to be displayed in the village. The group has exclusive access of the venue, which is built around an central patio and has a roof terrace with panoramic vistas over the countryside. The fee covers five days’ art instruction; all meals; and an excursion to the local castle and additional local sights.

Vegetarian Cooking in Portugal

This sun-drenched cooking retreat, set on a riverside villa in the inland Portuguese region, is draws inspiration from the plant-based cuisine of renowned chefs. Guests will master the art of selection of small dishes, take part in a hands-on falafel session, refine mid-morning meals such as shakshuka, and make substantial main courses such as a rich mushroom stew and moussaka. The schedule includes visits to the local market and a nearby winery to sample local vintages, along with leisure time for walks by the nearby river, to unwind on the deck or swim in the infinity pool. The farmhouse, a former farmhouse, has multiple rooms, as well as glamping tents in the gardens.

Street Dance in Buckinghamshire

Hip Hop Don’t Stop is an uplifting, welcoming weekend dance intensive for adults in High Wycombe. The format each day is a high-energy warm-up session, then three hour-and-a-half workshops covering different urban dance forms, then an 60-minute freestyle session to demonstrate new moves. Participants are split into levels based on ability and experience, so it is perfect for those who are brand new to popping and locking, all the way to experienced performers or teachers. This event doesn’t include lodging but there are a number of hostels and hotels within walking distance, and it is 23-35 minutes by train into London.

Sea Shanty Weekend in Cornwall

This coastal town is the excellent location for a maritime music retreat. Guests will be taught historic sailing songs from a folk singer and vocal coach, and have a go at writing their own. The schedule includes vocal warmups, breath control techniques, stagecraft advice and a final evening concert. The retreat is held in a rural hotel with views of the bay. Full board are provided, including a traditional tea on arrival, breakfast options, packed lunches and three-course dinners. Traditional rum, unfortunately, is not provided. Creative Writing in Greece

Author and tutor an experienced instructor leads the daily workshops on this authors' getaway. He explores topics including story structure, characters, setting and tension, to sending manuscripts to agents. Greg’s wife, the well-known writer Kate Mosse, will participate in events at the beginning and end of the retreat. The holiday is held at a traditional complex in Vamos at the base of the White mountains – 10 private accommodations are set around a central garden with a pool (companions are welcome to come along). On the final evening, aspiring writers celebrate with a musical performance in the courtyard and a farewell dinner.

Introduction to Beekeeping in Mid Wales

The Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth runs a wide range of programs on sustainability: from wildlife gardening to making pallet furniture. This weekend course will help participants understand the basics of apiary management, explore the biology of bees and learn about their environmental benefits. It is designed to produce “ecologically mindful beekeepers”. The weekend is also a chance to relax in the organization's sustainably managed woodlands, which are habitat for wildlife, otters, dormice, lesser horseshoe bats and rare birds. Accommodation the night before is 80 pounds, and full-board accommodation for the weekend is £97.

Yachting for Novices in the Blackwater Estuary

These new weekend sailing courses are spent on Wayfarers and keelboats on the Blackwater estuary. They are designed for novice sailors starting out or more experienced mariners who want a refresher. Sailors can improve their steering, strengthen their nautical skills and aim for the recognized levels one to three in a fun, welcoming environment. There are day-only and overnight options, with accommodation in simple dorms in the waterfront sailing school. The non-residential package provides lunches, while the residential package includes two nights' stay and all meals, from hearty breakfasts to evening barbecues.
