Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Involving Player the Athlete

The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in contact with the league office.

The team did not mention Rice by name in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, shared a set of images on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.

Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File

No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Rice's Recent Legal Issues

The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
