Increasing numbers of female travelers are reserving overseas trips to escape not only from their jobs and routine – but also from their loved ones.

Travel agencies have reported a substantial growth in trips for solo travellers, mostly older women, who are often going without partners to travel independently.

Providers focusing on guided trips and moderate exploration – usually safe outdoor activities such as hiking and canoeing – said that solo – but not necessarily without partners – clients were accounting for an increasing proportion of their clientele.

One major travel provider indicated that independent travelers represented 46% of bookings for its journeys planned for next year, rising from forty percent in last year. Nearly the majority of its present independent travel reservations are from ladies.

Further prominent travel companies each stated that independent travel reservations among their customers had grown by above twenty percent in the past two years.

A company director stated that customers booking their own solo holidays was about selecting how they wish to discover the world.

Many customers have partners and full personal lives, but they also value the liberty to journey on their own terms. Participating in a guided expedition gives them the best of both worlds: the pleasure of shared moments and the space to explore their personal interests.

Another travel company leader shared that the majority of its single traveler trips were ladies, most of whom were in the 45 to 60 demographic.

These customers explain they've focused on their profession or family responsibilities and at this stage wish to take time for personal growth.

This further indicates their urge to explore is unconstrained by the conflicting preferences or schedules of family.

Preferred Locations

They tend to opt for locations where they can soak up different cultures like Morocco, but they furthermore prefer physical trekking or pedaling tours in continental nations.

Cost and Scheduling

The expense of single journeys generally remains costlier – while child-free adults can also decide to go away from traditional vacation times.

September and October are peak periods for single journeys, based on company reports. A company leader commented: Single journeys is a definite, expanding phenomenon. Over half of travelers in an standard tour are exploring alone.

Market Response

An important business association announced that its partners have seen a significant growth in independent travel this year.
