A senior officer who jumped to the assistance of a colleague that got attacked by a knifeman has been awarded the Monarch's Honor for Bravery.

Sergeant Tim Ansell fought with 27-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he placed a knife to the throat of his partner Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the policemen and their colleague, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a motorist after a vehicle incident in that location in mid-2023.

Brown knifed and cut both Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft stopped him with a Taser.

Officer-mounted and dashboard camera video released by the force depicted Brown, who was dressed in black with a hood covering head, run up to Sgt Foster from behind with a blade pointed forward.

He collided with the policeman who lost balance and fell to the ground, after which Sgt Ansell jumped in and tried to wrestle him to the pavement although being multiple times hit with the weapon.
