Supporters Call for Detainment of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of the pop star are demanding that a man who jumped a fence and seized the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A circulating video shows the individual from Australia bypassing photographers and charging at Grande while the actors made its way down a yellow carpet accompanied by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being detained", though court documents revealed that he was set to attend court on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a celebrity gathering. His Instagram account features recordings of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney show in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the city last winter.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," stated an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Voice Worry Over Grande's Past Trauma
Many supporters criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" wrote another message on Instagram.
Several fans also faulted event staff at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while others called for social media platforms to block Mr Wen's videos.
Response and Premiere Information
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande appeared startled when she was grabbed by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Numerous of attendees had congregated in a crowd of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore mall, including several who had queued for as long as eight hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be launched on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-part adaptation of the well-known Broadway and West End production Wicked, which centers on the unexpected relationship between two contrasting witches.
The production itself is a adaptation of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a rosé sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of last year in the UK, and scored 10 Academy Award nods, winning several for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
